LEARNER OF THE YEAR 2008
Darol King of Silurian Security
This year we celebrated the achievements of our learners and our assessors were all asked to nominate their learners for the title of 'Learner of the Year'. The nominations were all very high but we were very impressed with the coments made by Darol's assessor Jo Evans who wrote: -
"In my opinion, Darol epitomises what NVQs are all about. Having been, by his own admission, 'a bit of a tearaway at school' and, if im not mistaken, being excluded a few imes, Darol was not what you might call 'an achiever'.
Darol's career started in a very modest fashion and through sheer hard work and determination he became part of Silurian and secured a post as director.
Throughout our tutorials I have seen Darol's self confidence grow immensely and he told me only this week, how he had beem complimented by one of his colleagues for the way in which he handled a situation in which his company needed to 'push forward' with a sitution and Darol achieved the objective. However his self belief is still growing as he still cannot quite believe what has has achieved.
Darol has made exeptional strides forward and has implemented many of the management practices that he has gleaned from his NVQ which has resulted in him being an integral part of the successful acqusition of many lucrative contracts for his company.
Darol is an exceptional candidate in so many ways. He is diligent, hardworking, modest and whats more, extremely grateful for the opportunities that his NVQ has given him"
We would like to congratulate Darol on his success and look forward to working with him in the future. Darol's story is an example of what can be achieved and many young people can take inspiration from his story.
Here he is at the VGTA Ceremony receiving his award by the Managing Director, Suzanne Slee, of WBTA.
