School Programme Achievers 2007

The school programme is for year 10 and 11 pupils and gives and insight into salon work. It is particularly useful to pupils of this age group as it helps them to make an informed decision about their choice of career. Also being a course which is very much customer focussed, students learn valuable skills and techniques which can be transferred to any career route.

The school programme is usually delivered through the NVQ route meaning it has to be delivered through the support of local employers and naturally, this limits the number of pupils we are able to place. This year, however, we delivered the Certificate instead – which is an equal qualification, but can be delivered in a simulated environment meaning we were able to give every pupil who expressed an interest a place.

WBTA used the Training Room at Gadsby in Neath to deliver the programme and its experienced and enthusiastic tutors, Maria Hibbard and Phillip Taylor, made the programme a success.

We all feel immensely proud of the achievements made by these young people and are delighted to be celebrating their success. As well as gaining a Level 1 qualification, the pupils have enjoyed the course, and some will be pursuing a career within the hairdressing industry. I am certain, however, that they will all take with them the skills and techniques they have learnt and apply them in whatever they choose to do in the future.

We are all very proud of them and wish them the very best in the future.
